Mom booked on child endangering charges

DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) – A Dayton mother is arrested after police said she left her two children home alone.

Police arrested 34-year-old Teanna Cornish on child endangering charges.

Officers responded to Cornish’s home in the 2100 block of Malvern Avenue around 3:30 p.m. Saturday on a child abuse complaint. The child’s father called officers and said Cornish’s boyfriend slapped his six-year-old daughter twice.

When police arrived at the address, they found Cornish’s nine-year-old girl and a six-month old at home alone. Police said the six-month-old was sleeping on the couch. The 9-year-old told police that Cornish left to go to the gas station and would be back soon.

When Cornish returned, she told police that she left the children at home while she took her other two kids to pick up her 11-year-old daughter on West Grand Avenue.

She told police her boyfriend did slap her six-year-old, but it was for discipline purposes.

Cornish also told police she had another child endangering charge against her. She said she was intoxicated when she went to pick up her children from daycare back in November.

Children’s Services was called to the home and placed all of the children in the care of their grandmother.

Cornish was booked into jail.
