SPRINGBORO, Ohio (WDTN) – Indiana Authorities swarm the campus of Purdue University after shots are fired around noon Tuesday.

Campus police say 23-year-old Cody Cousins, walked into a classroom at the school’s electrical engineering building, fired four or five shots and killed a fellow student, then calmly walked outside and turned himself into officers.

That victim has now been identified as Andrew Boldt of West Bend, Wisconsin.

The 21-year-old was reportedly a senior electrical engineering student, as was Cousins.

Cousins is now facing a murder charge in Boldt’s death.

Police aren’t commenting on a motive at the time

They say Cousins is from Centerville, Ohio.

2 NEWS has learned he’s a 2008 graduate of Springboro High School.

We called the district for comment but wasn’t able to reach anyone after hours.

We did, however, talk with a couple of his high school classmates.  One of them, who is also an employee at 2 NEWS, decided to go on camera.

He says Cousins was very intelligent and he can’t believe he’s charged with killing someone.

“We were all really shocked to hear this.  Cody was not a loner.  Cody was on the Academic Team.  He was on Ski/Snowboard Club.  We had a lot of friends together.  I saw him all the time.  I spent a week in Reno with him for a school competition.  He wasn’t a lone guy.  We were all just really shocked and very, very  sorry to hear what happened,” says Matt Herman.

Cousins is being held without bond in the Tippacanoe County Jail.

He’s scheduled to be in court Wednesday afternoon at 2:30.
