Victim’s family releases statement to 2 NEWS

DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) – The family of condemned killer Dennis Mcguire’s victim released a statement to 2 NEWS about their loved one.

Joy Stewart would be 47 years old today and her son, almost 25.

Her family told our Katie Ussin they miss her dearly.

The statement reads in part:

“She never got to realize her dreams, never got to hold her baby boy in her arms, never got to kiss his soft cheek.”

Her sister said they have forgiven Dennis McGuire and addressed the controversy over the drugs that will be used during his execution.

She says she knows her sister suffered great terror and pain and believes McGuire is being treated far more humanely than he treated her.

Members of Stewart’s family will witness the execution tomorrow.  McGuires two children and his attorney are also on the witness list. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
