MORAINE, Ohio (WDTN) – Freezing temperatures can causes car problems, and that’s why officials with AAA said having a winter driving kit is important.
They suggest you keep several items like a flashlight with extra batteries. The daylight hours during the winter are shorter and they say it’s likely your car will break down when it’s dark.
Officials also suggests you keep a set of jumper cables in your car. At zero degrees, a car’s battery loses about 60 percent of its strength they said.
It’s easy to forget, but it’s is equally important to make sure you have a bottle of windshield wiper fluid. When the snow and salt kicks up on your windshield, it can greatly reduce your visibility.
And they recommend you keep a blanket and extra set of clothes to keep warm while you wait on the side of the road for help, if you should become stranded.
