Goats die in Springfield Twp. barn fire

SPRINGFIELD TWP., Ohio (WDTN) – Four goats that were destined for the Clark County Fair died in a barn fire early Thursday morning.

The homeowner, John Dyson, told 2 NEWS his wife woke him up around 12:30 a.m. after she saw the flames.

By the time firefighters arrived, the barn on Ridge Road in Springfield Township was overcome by fire.

Dyson was able to rescue some cows and horses, but couldn’t get to the goats in time.

They were part of a 4-H project and were expected to be in the upcoming fair.

“He’d won ribbons with them and we had a real good one this year,” added Dyson.

Firefighters and Dyson decided to let the fire burn itself out.

Chief John Roeder says they may never know how the fire started.
