DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) — A man is behind bars following a home invasion and SWAT standoff in a Dayton neighborhood.
Exco Kennedy, 34, was arrested on charges of aggravated burglary.
Officers were called to the 500 block of Deeds Avenue around 1 a.m. Sunday. Investigators stated that Kennedy kicked in the front door of a neighbor’s home, made threats with a handgun, and then ran from the scene back to his home.
According to police, the incident stemmed from some ongoing neighbor trouble. The victims told police that Kennedy had gotten angry after their relatives were throwing a football in the street and their friends were parking in front of his house the previous day. The victims told officers prior to their call-out, Kennedy and two of his friends, threw snow and ice at their upstairs window, breaking it.
When police arrived on scene, they went to Kennedy’s house but he refused to come out. Officers said Kennedy was also highly intoxicated.
Because officers knew Kennedy had a gun, they called in SWAT. Police said a woman and baby were also inside the home, but they were not being held hostage by Kennedy.
Eventually, Kennedy came out of the home and was taken into custody. Officers recovered a firearm from his house.
No one was injured in the incident.
