Grocery stores, gas stations busy through wintry blast

KETTERING, Ohio (WDTN) – Area businesses have been packed with people preparing to be stuck at home for a day or two.

Shovels and salt lined the front of the Kroger on Stroop Road in Kettering.

Store Manager Neil Shafer placed additional cashiers on the floor Tuesday.  Checkout lanes were packed with people, including Chuck Walker, who purchased a special salt formula and food.

“I come here often, but I came today to stock up just in case I’m stuck inside for a few days,” said Walker.  “I’ve been living in Florida the past couple of years. This winter has been a whole new thing for me and I believe it’s time to go back south.”

A grocery store run wasn’t the only precaution people took. Drivers were spotted filling up their gas tanks and filling their tires with more air. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
