MORAINE, Ohio (WDTN) — Five people were taken to the hospital after a crash shut down a portion of I-75.

Crews were called to I-75 Northbound, north of the West Carrollton entrance and exit ramps around 1:45 a.m. Sunday on a three vehicle crash.

According to officials, a car had stopped on the left side of the highway to change a flat tire. The driver of that car had called some friends in to help. While changing the tire, a pick-up truck slammed into the two cars.

Two people had to be cut from one of the vehicles. CareFlight was called to the scene to transport those two victims. Three other people were taken to the hospital.

According to officials, injuries were serious but non-life-threatening.

Mutual aid responded to the scene.

The northbound lanes of the highway were shutdown for a while but it re-opened after 4 a.m.

The crash remains under investigation.
