Businesses suffering due to snow

TIPP CITY, Ohio (WDTN) – A sweet escape in the midst of a bitter winter is something a number of area businesses could use.

“It’s been a very, very cold winter so I know that’s kept people indoors,” says Kristy Reis with Sweet by Kristy in Tipp City.

Sweet by Kristy is one of the businesses suffering from a winter that hasn’t let up on the frosting and so far has taken the cake.

“We’ve had more days closed this year than I’ve ever had,” Reis says.

What saved the shop so far is that it’s now shipping some of its desserts.  That and Valentine’s Day on Friday will make up for any missed days.

“That’s the busy holiday for my store,” Reis says.

Kristy’s isn’t the only business that could use some love.  Buy It All Liquidations in Miamisburg says its business is down more than 50 percent.

“It’s been an almost absolute shutdown,” says Todd Wagner with Buy It All.

The consignment shop says online sales have provided a boost, but it still depends on getting people inside the store.

“Some of us are Internet based and that has been a help but it’s not enough to carry us all,” Wagner says.

So Buy It All is now advertising it all using a person carrying a sign board to close the deal.

“Plenty of cars do drive by but we can’t get them to pull over and come in,” Wagner says.

But like the winter weather, the business refuses to quit.

“I’m going to do whatever it takes,” Wagner says.
