DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) – We all know the feeling a brand new pair of shoes can give us.
Scores of local students got that same feeling Tuesday, plus some.
A warm pair of socks needs a partner and there is no better couple than a new pair of shoes.
The students at Dayton’s Edison Pre K-8 have the opportunity of a lifetime.
“They have referred kids who need one pair of gym shoes and socks that fit them,” said Kristin Horlachern, Director, Shoes 4 the Shoeless.
Shoes 4 the Shoeless has helped 21,000 local children get better prepared for their trek to school through grants, fundraising and community support over the last four years.
“Just seeing smiles as they look at socks is priceless,” said Erin Rogers, Edison Curriculum Specialist.
Horlachern says some of the youngsters wear shoes that are too small or just plain worn to the point they should not be worn at all.
With the help of volunteers from Wright Patterson Air Force Base, new shoes, socks and underwear made the day.
Visit the Shoes 4 for the Shoeless web site if you would like to volunteer, donate or if you know of a large group of children in need of underwear, socks and shoes.
