DAYTON, Ohio (AP) — Dyshawn Pierre scored 21 points and grabbed 12 rebounds to carry Dayton to a 76-69 win over Rhode Island on Wednesday.

Devin Oliver and Jordan Sibert added 10 points apiece for the Flyers (17-8, 5-5 Atlantic 10), who made 24 of 29 free throws.

E.C. Matthews scored 22 points for the Rams (11-14, 2-8), who shot 52 percent. Hassan Martin had 14 points and a career-high 13 rebounds and Xavier Munford added 12 points.

A three-point play by Jalen Robinson gave Dayton a 70-59 lead with 6:27 to play but the Flyers then went almost 6 minutes without scoring until Pierre made 1 of 2 free throws at the 42-second mark.

However, the Rams were only able to cut the deficit to 71-67 on two Matthews foul shots at 30 seconds. Then Khari Price made four free throws, sandwiched around a Matthews layup, to secure the win.
