ENGLEWOOD, Ohio (WDTN) – 2 NEWS looked into the records of the trucking company whose driver troopers say was to blame for a fatal crash and found this isn’t the first deadly accident their drivers have been involved in.
Troopers say the semi driven by Yusuf Hussein Yusuf of New Brighton Minnesota slammed into the back of a car, crushing it against another semi on Interstate 70.
The driver of that car, Brenda Longstreth, was killed.
Troopers believe Longstreth had been slowing down for construction up ahead but for whatever reason Yusuf didn’t stop.
We pulled the safety record for Yusuf’s company Midwest Carriers out of Eagan, Minnesota.
According to federal records, it has 60 drivers and 55 trucks.
In the last two years the company has been involved in two deadly crashes and two other injury crashes, but the information doesn’t tell if the company was at fault in those crashes.
In addition out of 250 inspections of the company’s drivers, just more than 10 percent were put out of service.
That’s nearly twice the national average.
We called the company to ask about Yusuf’s driving record but have yet to hear back.
