BELLBROOK, Ohio (WDTN) – The City of Bellbrook named a new police chief Tuesday.

Douglas Doherty will take the helm March 3. He will oversee a $1.75 million operating budget and a staff of 13.

He is replacing Chief Dave Helling who is retiring.

Doherty is a Dayton native. He has 25 years of law enforcement experience, including 11 years as a captain for the Xenia Police Division.

“The City of Bellbrook is privileged to have Doug Doherty as our next Police Chief,” said City Manager Mark Schlagheck. “Doug’s experience and leadership skills will allow the Bellbrook Police Department to continue providing excellent service to the residents of Bellbrook.”

Helling served the City of Bellbrook for 16 years as police chief.
