BELLEFONTAINE, Ohio (AP) — Police investigating a hit-and-run crash that killed a U.S. Marine from Virginia say they’ve collected surveillance video from businesses and other evidence from the scene.

Police have been trying to identify the vehicle that struck 34-four-year-old Monica Plank after midnight Sunday after she left a restaurant in Bellefontaine, northwest of Columbus. Plank was a Marine gunnery sergeant from Stafford, Va.

The Bellefontaine Examiner reports Plank had been walking in the roadway to avoid deep snow and ice on the sidewalks. She died hours after the crash at a Columbus hospital.

Her husband, Chris Plank, was an estimated 100 to 200 feet behind her at the time of the crash. He is also a U.S. Marine sergeant and is from the Bellefontaine area.
