RICHMOND, Indiana (WDTN)- Skates U.S. is the exclusive distributor here in the United States for Edea skates which help thousands of athletes compete every year and helps some go for the gold.
“It’s great. I mean, we’re right there with them,” says Skates U.S. owner David Ripp.
The Richmond company has been outfittng 18 year old Olympian Gracie Gold in ice skates since she was 13 years old.
Each one is customized to fit the skater’s foot.
“The technology that’s used in Edea skates pushes the envelope of what is available today. The boots are lightweight, comfortable and yet, they are very strong and supportive. “So, they protect their feet and ankles,” explains Ripp.
The price for a pair of skates can range anywhere between $400 and $2000.
Ripp is a Dayton native who started the business 10 years ago.
He knows what it is like to compete at such a high level.
“I started skating myself, before I was one, won my first regionals when I was five, won my first national championship when I was nine and I won thirteen seconds and thirds at the national level. I competed on ice also in ice skate shows when I was in high school and college,” says Ripp.
Everyone at the family-owned business will be watching as Gracie goes for the Gold Friday.
