DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) — A traffic violation landed a Dayton man behind bars after police said he refused to stop and fled.

Jose Natera, 24, was arrested for failure to comply with the order of a police officer.

Crews were on patrol looking for traffic violations near the Route 48 corridor around 5:45 p.m. Friday.

According to officials, Natera was driving a white Buick and ran a red light at the intersection of North Main Street and Forest Avenue. Police followed him to Santa Clara Avenue and attempted to stop the car, but Natera  kept driving.

Police said they continued to follow Natera to the area of Maplelawn Drive where he parked the car, got out, and ran. A short foot pursuit ensued.

Officials caught up with Natera in a nearby park and took him into custody. Officers searched him and found he was carrying a small bag of marijuana.

When police searched records, they found Natera was arrested by police three times prior for driver’s license offenses. Police stated Natera had a suspended driver’s license.

Natera was booked into the Montgomery County Jail. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
