DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) –A Dayton man was sentenced to life in prison Tuesday for his conviction in the shooting death of a choir director back in 2011.
Shawn D. Wood, 32, was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole, plus an additional, consecutive, 23 years incarceration for his convictions in the shooting death of Cory Turner, whose body was discovered on Dec. 16, 2011.
A jury found the defendant guilty as charged on Feb. 6, 2014.
Turner’s body was discovered in his apartment by the facility manager and apartment security after friends and family reported that they had not seen or heard from him recently. The victim was found lying on his bed, fully clothed and shot execution style.
Investigators discovered the victim, a longtime choir director at a local church, had been talking by phone to the defendant just prior to the time of his death. The defendant was found to be in possession of items belonging to the victim shortly after the victim’s death, including the victim’s car and credit cards.
Wood will be transported to the Northern Correctional Institute.
