HUBER HEIGHTS, Ohio (WDTN) – A murder brought a little boy out into the cold Friday night. Young Brennan, 4, was paying tribute to his mother by being the first to release a bouquet of balloons in her memory.
Melissa Nilson, 26, was shot and killed a week ago at her home on Cree Drive in Huber Heights.
Friends and family gathered Friday at the dance studio where she began to study the art at age three and grew to become an instructor.
Candles glowed in the evening cold for the woman who loved to dance.
“My sister knew knew tons of people. Everyone loved her and all the people that didn’t know her, they still feel sympathetic to the cause,” said Jonathan Nilson, victim’s brother.
The family sold t-shirts, bracelets and ribbons to collect donations for Nilson’s son.
Nilson’s estranged boyfriend, Ryan Mitchell, 29, is charged with her murder.
