SPRINGFIELD, Ohio (WDTN) – Three days after being captured, Mark Edwards appeared in Clark County Municipal Court Monday for an arraignment hearing.
Edwards faces three charges – violation of a protection order, domestic violence, and interfering with custody.
Springfield police took Edwards, 44, into custody Friday night just after 9:30 p.m. with the 14-year-old girl who officers said left with him voluntarily Tuesday night. Officers said she was OK.
Sheriff Gene Kelly said two people spotted Edwards and the teen at a gas station near the intersection of Selma Road and Sunset Drive. They told officers they do not know them personally, but were trying to get Edwards to turn himself in to police. They tipped police who spotted the van at an apartment complex on East John Street.
Officers stopped the van and found Edwards and the girl in the back. They took the two into custody without incident.
Edwards was scheduled into court this week for a previous attempted flight with the girl in tow. The Sept. 30, 2013 incident ended with him charged with kidnapping and rape.
Sheriff Kelly said the girl now faces charges of inducing panic and complicity to interfere with custody from this latest incident.
