Crime Stoppers joins search for RTA shooting suspects

DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) – It was the local shooting that gained national attention because of how an RTA bus driver survived two bullets to the chest.

Crime Stoppers is now joining the search for the gunmen.

911: Dispatch.

Rick Wagoner: Yeah, someone’s trying to call me from the sheriff’s. I’m a bus driver for RTA. I got shot.

Wagoner was shot three times and stabbed.

He was working to repair his broken down bus in the early morning hours of February 24 at the corner of Lakeview Avenue and Lakeside Drive in Dayton when he was attacked by three men.

“He heard suspects say, “Time to kill a polar bear, to get into the club,” said Sgt. Michael Pauley, Dayton Police Department.

Wagoner fought back. “I didn’t want to stay there. I took the gun and knife away from them and shot them.”

Surveillance video shows Wagoner climbing back onto the bus after it happened.

It may well have been a case of divine intervention.

Two of the bullets were stopped by the book in his front shirt pocket, a modern translation of the Bible.

Police describe the suspects as three black males in their late teens or 20s between 6′ and 6’2″. They were all wearing dark hoodies and blue bandanas and fled in an older model gray sedan
