XENIA, Ohio (WDTN) – The Greene County Board of Elections has been unable to reach a decision about the future of the current director, Nancy Johannes. Now members will have to rely on Ohio Secretary of State Jon Husted to break a tie just two months before the primary election.

The four board members met again Thursday morning to vote on reappointing Johannes as director. The result was 2-2 again.

2 NEWS Investigates spoke with the temporary chairperson of the board, Brian Lampton, and he said he believes the deadlock goes beyond politics.

Lampton said the board’s disagreement also has to do with some personal matters including the work environment. He would not provide details.

Lampton said the two Democratic members of the board will prepare a letter for Secretary Husted as will the Republicans. They have given themselves until Monday to write the letters.

Matt McClellan, spokesman for Secretary Husted, said Husted will make a decision in a timely manner given how close we are to the primary election.

Johannes is a Republican. Deputy Director Llyn McCoy is a Democrat. Husted is a Republican.

2 NEWS Investigates reached out to Director Johannes, but we have yet to hear back.
