Red Cross offers tornado app

DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) – Its National Severe Weather Awareness Week, and that’s why 2 NEWS is talking with the Red Cross about how you can stay safe ahead of a storm.

The Red Cross offers a cellphone app that uses your phone’s location, and if there is a tornado warning for that area, you are alerted.

The application also allows you to add zip codes of your loved ones so you can call them and alert them as well.

“Actually the tornado we had a couple weeks ago in northern Montgomery County, I was asleep and my Red Cross tornado app went off,” Red Cross Major Gifts Officer Patty Hiatt said. “It turns into a siren. Without it, I would not have known there was a tornado a mile north of my home.”

The Red Cross also offers a first aid, earthquake, and hurricane app as well.
