ENGLEWOOD, Ohio (WDTN) – Caught on camera. Quick thinking gets a couple out of an explosive situation Friday morning in Englewood.
Gas and flames do not mix and thanks to the fast thinking of a 79-year-old, a very dangerous situation was avoided.
“He said oh my golly, it’s on fire,” exclaimed Millie Blankenship.
She and her husband, Roger, were on their way to Mason and pulled off to get fuel in Englewood.
That’s when things went wrong.
Their van started smoking just inches away from the gas pump.
Roger jumped into action.
“I got it out of park and I just pushed it away from the gas pump, so it wouldn’t do any damage there. I didn’t want that thing blowing up,” said Roger.
The 79-year-old pushed the car ahead several feet.
“It just burst into flames at that point,” said Roger.
Both he and Millie were able to get out of the way in time and the fire department took it from there.
Police credit Roger’s quick thinking to averting an explosion.
“We’re ok, just shook up a little bit and we’ll be ok I guess,” said Roger.
