Pedestrian struck, killed in Dayton

Snowfall totals

DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) – Dayton police say a man was killed Saturday while trying to cross the street.

Crews were called to the 1800 block of South Gettysburg Avenue around 10:30 p.m.

Lt. Mark Ponichtera tells 2 News a man was struck by two vehicles and died at the scene. The victim was not in a crosswalk.

We’re told both drivers are cooperating with police and it’s unlikely they will be charged.

Lt. Ponichtera has this advice for pedestrians, “Utilize the sidewalk if possible. If you have to cross in an area that’s not deemed a crosswalk, you’re doing so at your own risk. We obviously advise against that.”

He also recommends wearing reflective clothing if you are walking at night.
