HUBER HEIGHTS, Ohio (WDTN) — Huber Heights City Council voted Monday evening to push back the start of a project to build a hotel and sports complex.
GoodSports got a two month extension for the project that’s going up next to the Huber Heights Music Center, which is already under construction.
The project will now start in June 2014 instead of April 2014. The new finish date is June 2015.
We wanted to know what’s behind the extension.
“Due to some architectural design and plan review, that additional time was needed,” says Interim City Manager Rob Schommer.
But the changes aren’t slowing down development of businesses who hope to benefit from the project.
Demolition started Monday on a McDonald’s on Merily Way that dates back to the 70’s. It’s being taken down so a new one can be put in its place.
“It’s going to be a nice fresh look,” says owner Ben Scott. “It’s going to have all the bells and whistles of a new McDonald’s.”
The new building will be designed to better handle the increasing crowds the nearby music center and sports complex may bring.
Schommer says the new McDonald’s is just the start of additional development surrounding the project.
“We will continue to nurture that and allow that development to grow and be a great economic catalyst for the community,” Schommer says.
