Hara Arena feels the winter freeze

TROTWOOD, Ohio (WDTN)-The cold, snow and ice have been bad for many businesses.

Hara Arena hosts a variety of events, everything from Dayton Demonz hockey games to hobby and trade shows to Dayton Sharks indoor football.

Although official numbers aren’t available just yet because the season isn’t over, marketing director Karen Wampler believes there’s been a 10-15% drop in attendance overall.

She says they will have to make up that lost money somehow.

“We try very hard to avoid raising ticket prices. It’s not a smart move in the market right now.  We need to do more events,  We need to draw more people to events that we have in the more moderate months, that’s, you make cuts, you do what you have to do,” comments Wampler.

Wampler says it is too early to talk about what, if any cuts need to be made.

When the weather has been nice, she says attendance has reflected that.

For example, attendance numbers doubled from January to March for the Shop Till You Drop event.
