Fire breaks out in downtown Eaton


EATON, Ohio (WDTN) – A building in downtown Eaton was heavily damaged by fire Friday morning.

Firefighters responded to 212 N. Barron Street around 6:00 when a passerby reported the fire.

When they arrived on the scene, flames were visible on the first floor of the two-story structure.

The Eaton fire chief told 2 NEWS the bottom floor was vacant, but said the top floor was occupied by a renter or a squatter. No one was in the building at the time of the fire.

The building next door, which houses the Chrismer Agency insurance company, was damaged by water.

The roof was scorched on the building to the other side, a frame house used by Hawley & Cobb Certified Public Accountants.

The West Alexandria Fire Department was called for mutual aid assistance.

The cause o the fire is under investigation.

No injuries were reported.
