Mayors’ challenge offers up Dayton classics

DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) – The Battle of Ohio is more than a basketball game. It is a mayor’s challenge.

Dayton Mayor Nan Whaley and Columbus Mayor Michael Coleman have a bet.

Mayor Whaley is offering up a basket of Dayton’s finest should the Flyers lose. Mayor Coleman has a basket full of Columbus goodies ready for Whaley should OSU lose.

Whaley’s basket includes Esther Price Chocolates, Mikesell’s Potato Chips and Buckeye Vodka.

The Columbus basket includes Jeni’s Splendid Ice Cream.

“Of course I am rooting for Coach Miller and the Flyers,” said Mayor Whaley. “Since Ohio State won’t play us in the UD Arena, we are happy to play them in Buffalo. We have already beaten a number of BCS teams on neutral courts, we are happy to add OSU to the list.”

“I invite my good friend Mayor Whaley to join me in Columbus Thursday to watch her Dayton Flyers put up a valiant-but ultimately futile-effort against the Ohio State Buckeyes,” Mayor Coleman said. “After the game, I promise to fix her a Buckeye Vodka Martini from my winnings.”
