DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) – A firefighter is hurt while battling a fire in Dayton.

Crews arrived to a home in the 2000 block of W. Riverview Ave. around 4 pm, to find flames showing from the eaves.

A firefighter was taken to the hospital after falling into an open floor vent. Officials said the house was vacant.

“Anytime we have an abandoned house, it’s very dangerous,” said District Chief Cheryl Clark. “We don’t know what we’re walking into, because we don’t know if they’ve cut holes in the floor, we don’t know who’s been in there or what they might have put inside, or be storing in there.”

We’re told the firefighter hurt his shoulder. He was taken to Miami Valley Hospital, but is expected to recover.

The cause remains under the investigation.
