Driver critically injured after SUV slams into tree

DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) – A driver was critically injured after his SUV slammed into a tree overnight.

Dayton police said the driver was headed northbound on Riverside Drive near Lawn Street.

They say the driver lost control, hopped a median and ended up in the southbound lane before he slammed into a tree just after 2:00 a.m.

First responders rushed to the scene where crews had to use the jaws of life to get that driver out.

“The vehicle was basically destroyed, obviously the infantry at a high rate. It would be amazing if he survived the impact,” said Sgt. Michael Pauley, Dayton Police Department.

Investigators are testing the driver’s blood to see if alcohol play a factor in this crash.

The driver had to be rushed into surgery following the crash.
