IKEA announces bed canopy recall

WASHINGTON, D.C. (WDTN) – IKEA announced a recall Friday of children’s bed canopies.

It says a child’s neck could get tangled in the fabric, posing a strangulation hazard.

IKEA says the canopies are made out of a mesh fabric and hang from the ceiling onto a child’s crib or bed. They measure about seven feet long.

There are nine reports of children becoming entangled in the fabric. One case involved a 7-month-old girl who pulled the canopy’s fabric into her crib. It wrapped around her neck several times.

The products were sold at IKEA stores nationwide and online from August 1996 through March 2014. They cost between $10.00 and $30.00.

Anyone who owns an IKEA canopy should return it for a full refund.
