Nationwide IRS scam warning

DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) – The Treasury Inspector General for Taxpayer Administration warns of a nationwide IRS phone scam.

The TIGTA reports more than 20,000 victims have already paid over a million dollars to persons who have perpetrated the scam.

Victims are receiving phone calls from people who are demanding payment for delinquent taxes via wire transfer or pre-paid debit card.

Officials warn they are threatening arrest, deportation or loss of driver’s or business licenses.

The IRS will never ask for payments via wire transfer or debit card, as well as credit card numbers over the phone. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
