NCAA exposure huge for UD

DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) A bright, sunny Spring day matched the mood of students on the University of Dayton’s campus  Friday. The day after its men’s basketball team’s monumental win against OSU to advance in the NCAA tournament.

“It was the best game I’ve ever been to,” said Ben Heigel, who is a senior at UD.

Heigel had to return to Dayton Friday to work at Flyer Spirit, a campus apparel store that has never been busier than now.

“Thursday, after the Flyers won, we had a sale almost every 2 minutes of NCAA tournament shirts,” explained Heigel.

Its not just a boost in local sales that has Flyer fans on fire.  Rather, the national attention on the University right now. The exposure is so great it caused UD’s official Twitter page to crash after the win, according to the University’s VP Enrollment Management and Marketing.

“Our Twitter maxed out and crashed Thursday,” said Sundar Kumarasmy, who  “We had 10 million impressions from a one day event.”

Kumarasmy was also ecstatic  to see UD on the front page of the Wall Street Journal Friday morning. Coverage he believes  will lead to international exposure, as well as an increase in future university enrollment and support.

“The kids who are watching their family celebrate the Flyer’s success yesterday are going to be talking and telling stories about their experience and this creates a new generation of Flyers,” explained Kumarasmy.
