HARRISON TWP., Ohio (WDTN)-Mattresses, toys and trash bags litter the front lawn of this home at 202 Park End Drive in Harrison Township.
“It’s awful. We’re always, the whole neighborhood up here is always going around picking up garbage from when it’s blowing around here,” explains Joan Chapman.
She’s lived in this neighborhood for 73 years and has never seen anything like this before.
She says this has been problem for months but grew worse in the past week.
“There’s always garbage out there. They don’t use the recycle bin like they should, so the garbage man won’t take it. They started doing this, this week, just throwing it out of windows,” says Chapman.
Neighbors contacted 2 NEWS wanting to know who is responsible for the mess.
A spokesperson for the Harrison Township Zoning Department tells me a notice was posted on the garage Friday, informing the owners that they are in violation of the township’s maintenance code.
It states that trash can only be put out 48 hours before a scheduled pick up and must be removed within 24 hours or the township will do it at the owners expense.
That typically costs several hundred dollars for employee pay and dumping costs.
The township says Federal National Mortgage Association–out of DC—now owns the property. We contacted the company for comment but haven’t heard back yet.
We also called the people who owned the home before it was foreclosed on in December but no one answered.
The township tells 2 NEWS a special truck used for bulk items will pick up the trash by the curb next week but because some of the items are closer to the home, on private property, it could be weeks before they’re removed.
“I wish it was done and over with. I’m very concerned. Everybody maintains their property real good here and if they can’t, they have people come in and help them because there’s a lot of older people who live on this street,” explains Chapman.
