PIQUA, Ohio (WDTN) — A bicyclist is dead after a collision with a van.
The deadly crash happened around 11:15 a.m. Saturday at the intersection of Loy Road and Troy-Sidney Road.
CareFlight initially put on standby but was cancelled.
The bicyclist was reportedly riding with a group participating in a distance ride that began in Springfield and ran through Quincy, Sidney, Troy, before reversing course to end in Springfield.
According to officials, the van hit the bicyclist who was thrown approximately 125-150 feet.
The driver of the van, 78-year-old Thomas Davis of Fletcher was uninjured.
The name of the bicyclist is still being withheld pending notification to next of kin.
Troy-Sidney Road was closed between Loy Road and Statler Road as a crash reconstruction team from the Miami County Sheriff’s Office investigated the crash.
