Police clear streets following Sweet 16 clincher

DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) — Dayton Police responded to Kiefaber Street on the University of Dayton’s campus Saturday night after students erupted in celebration following UD’s win against Syracuse.

According to the police report, the entire street  was filled with people drinking and throwing glass bottles after midnight Sunday when revelers gathered to celebrate UD securing a spot in the Sweet 16.

When officers responded, they moved west on Kiefaber ordering the crowd to disperse.

While most obeyed police orders, officers said one person was repeatedly uncooperative.

According to officers, when police were in front of 429 Kiefaber Street, 22-year-old Matthew McCawley ignored officer’s orders to clear the streets and tried to walk through the police skirmish line.

McCawley was arrested for disorderly conduct.
