Crash victim’s father has message for teen drivers

CLARK CO., Ohio (WDTN) – A makeshift memorial marks the crash site where three teenagers lost their lives in a car crash.

Investigators say the car was speeding when it hit a tree along Ridge Road early Wednesday morning.

Daniel Tittle, Charles Luthe and Wesley Culpepper lost their lives.

Culpepper’s father is grieving the loss of his 15-year old boy. He remembers Wes as a fun, outgoing teen who had big plans for the future.

“Wesley loved the outdoors. He was a country boy. He liked to wear his cowboy hats and his cowboy boots,” said Jeff Culpepper.

Culpepper believes his son may have been doing what he loved in the hours leading up to his death.

“I thought that they might have been fishing or camping out. That’s about all I know that the boys were going to spend the night and they probably had a camp fire somewhere.”

He says the outpouring of support from the community is helping his family cope with their loss, but his grief never goes away.

“I know there’s a million thoughts going through my head, different moments and sometimes I can be strong and sometimes I’m really weak and break down.”

Even though Wes had just gotten his temporary license, Culpepper said he had already talked to his son about the dangers of driving.

Investigators say speed was a factor in the crash. Culpepper hopes that teen drivers will learn from this tragedy.

“I want them to know to slow down and be careful and just because there’s two or three kids in the car, don’t egg each other on, don’t egg the driver on, don’t get excited about going fast. I mean it’s serious on the road and life is fragile.”

A fund is set up in Wes Culpepper’s name at Wright Patt Credit Union to help pay for funeral expenses. You can donate at any location. Funeral arrangements are still pending.

Arrangements are set for the funeral of Charles Luthe. Memorial gatherings will be held Saturday, March 29 from 2:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. and from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the Littleton & Rue Funeral Home.

Funeral services are Sunday, March 30 at 2:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
