DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) — After a heartbreaking loss to the Florida Gators in the Elite 8, the Flyers returned home to the University of Dayton early Sunday morning to a fanfare of cheering students and fans.
“It’s hard to put it all into perspective right now. I’m happy for the school. I’m happy for the fans. Our players did a great job. You know, we had a great run and it’s something to be proud of,” said Head Coach Archie Miller after stepping off the bus.
The Flyers journey in the NCAA tournament started in Buffalo when they eliminated the seeded 6 Ohio State Buckeyes. They went on to defeat 3rd ranked Syracuse in Round 32 of the tournament and then advanced to eliminate Standford in the Sweet 16. The Flyers’ journey ended in the Elite 8 when they were defeated by the Florida Gators 62-52 in Memphis Saturday.
“They’re happy with us. They’re proud of us. There’s not a better feeling in the world than that,” said sophomore Jalen Robinson as he and the other players were welcomed by proud fans.
A celebration of UD’s men’s and women’s basketball season will take place Sunday starting at 6 p.m. at UD Arena. Doors open at 5:30 p.m.
