HARRISON TWP., Ohio (WDTN) – Police are looking for a driver who ran away after crashing his car early Monday morning.
Ohio State Highway Patrol says a trooper tried to stop the car for a traffic violation on North Dixie Drive around 1:30 a.m. The car kept going, making a left turn onto Bartley Road.
Sgt. Ross Reed says the driver lost control and crashed into a guard rail. The pursuit lasted less than a minute.
Sgt. Reed tells 2NEWS the driver took off running. Three people who were in the car stayed behind and were taken to a hospital to be checked out. They are cooperating with the investigation.
Police brought in a K-9 to track the runaway driver, but were unable to find him. Once they do, he faces charges for the original traffic violation as well as fleeing and eluding police. He could face more charges depending on the severity of his passengers’ injuries.
“When you see the lights, no matter what your violation is, nothing’s worth you getting hurt. Pull over to the side of the road. Everything else can be worked out, but once someone’s injured or killed you can’t take that back,” Sgt. Reed said.
Dayton Police and the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office assisted troopers with the crash.
