Suspect robs man with screwdriver

DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) — A suspect was arrested after police said he robbed a man with a screwdriver.

Richard Lee Simkins III, 42, was arrested on charges of assault, obstructing official business, and resisting arrest.

Police were dispatched to the VFW Hall located at 808 Highridge Avenue Saturday after 7 p.m.

According to police, the victim was leaving the VFW Hall when he was approached by Simkins. The victim said Simkins threatened him with a screwdriver and demanded cash.

Police stated Simkins took the victim’s money and the ran from the scene.

Officers spotted Simkins running from the scene with his dog and tried to arrest him. Simkins led them on a short foot chase but eventually surrendered.

Simkins was booked into the Montgomery County Jail.
