Grandma brutally beaten at Walmart

BUTLER TWP., Ohio (WDTN) – A grandmother is recovering after getting a beating at a local Walmart.

911 Caller: “She was brutally beaten.”

Dispatcher: “Ok.”

911 Caller: “In the face, neck.  She’s bleeding.”

The frantic 911 call was made around 9:30 Monday night from the Walmart parking lot on York Commons Boulevard.

2 NEWS talked with the victim’s daughter, who did not want to be identified, hours after the attack who said a man repeatedly punched her 52-year-old mother in the head and body, trying to rob her.

It all happened in front of the victim’s 3-year-old granddaughter.

“Her head hit the concrete.  She was just trying to, you know, make sure that my niece didn’t get hurt,” explains the victim’s daughter.

She says the little girl is okay.

The beating to her mother was so savage she victim will need reconstructive face surgery.

“Her eyes are really, really puffy, she can’t open them.  Her nose is broke.  They drained her eyes out, they are giving her drops in her eyes.  They don’t know if she’s lost her eyesight,” she said.

Butler Township Police Chief John Cresie says two bystanders saw the attack and jumped in to help.  They held the suspect until officers arrived.

The suspect was taken into custody on an outstanding warrant.  Police declined to identify the man because because formal charges are still pending in this case.

The victim’s daughter has a message for those good samaritans.

“I would say thank you, thank you so much because if they wouldn’t have been there you know, my mom may not be here.  So, I want to find out who they are, so I can thank them personally,” she said.

This attack was all caught on tape but police aren’t releasing the surveillance video.

A Walmart spokesperson tells 2 NEWS there is always a security officer inside the store but she wasn’t sure about any security outside in the parking lot.
