DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) – Phil Donahue is back in Dayton.
The man credited with creating the daytime talk show format returned to WDTN for an appearance today on Living Dayton.
2 NEWS anchor Mark Allan sat down with Phil for a one-on-one interview that you can see on 2 NEWS beginning at 5:00.
WDTN is where Donahue first launched his talk show in 1967 when the station was known as WLWD.
It was broadcast live from the Channel 2 studios before Donahue moved the show to Chicago, then New York.
The Donahue Show had a 29 year run, and earned 20 Emmy awards.
TV Guide named Donahue one of the greatest television shows of all time and it was known for groundbreaking interviews with newsmakers including Muhammad Ali, Johnny Carson, John Kennedy, and Jimmy Carter.
Donahue is town as the keynote speaker at the University of Dayton’s Erma Bombeck Writers Workshop that starts today and runs through Saturday.
