Husband accused of hammer attack on wife in court

MIAMI TWP., Ohio (WDTN) – An elderly Miami Township man accused of attacking his wife with a hammer made his first court appearance Thursday.

Andrew Monachella’s case will now head to a grand jury. He called dispatchers Sunday from his Gardenia Drive home.

Monachella told police his wife suffers from Alzheimer’s Disease and dementia and he hit her with a hammer.

She is hospitalized with head injuries.  Monachella is in the Montgomery County Jail charged with two counts of attempted murder and felonious assault.
