Police: Kids start fire while Centerville dad sleeps

CENTERVILLE, Ohio (WDTN) — A Centerville father was arrested Wednesday and is expected to face charges of child endangering after police say his twins started a fire while he was passed out.

Police say they were told to check on Keith Cashman’s twin 7-year-olds after he picked them up from school in a cab. Teachers told officers that he wasn’t  acting normal.

Police tell 2 NEWS they showed up at Cashman’s home Wednesday night to find the two kids had started a fire in the fire pit in the backyard. Officers knocked on the door to talk with Cashman, 39, but he didn’t answer, according to Centerville Police Public Information Officer John Davis. Eventually one of the kids woke Cashman up, Davis says.

The two kids are now staying with relatives.

2NEWS found Cashman had a previous child endangering conviction from 2012 but was given a suspended jail sentence and ordered to find a job. They say that conviction could mean these charges would be felonies instead of misdemeanors.
