HUBER HEIGHTS, Ohio (WDTN) – A local Cub Scout received a national award Friday.
Isaac Taliaferro, 10, risked his own life to help his friend while their families were vacationing at a lake.
“I was walking away and I heard my friend call for help, so I ran back in to save him,” said Isaac.
He was awarded the National Medal of Merit.
He is credited with saving his friend’s life at Kaiser Lake in 2012.
Isaac says he just jumped into action.
“I used to swim a lot and I took swimming lessons, so I ended up saving him that day.”
“Him being able to jump into action when it was needed, and think on his own, about the training he’s had in the past, has all come together,” said Dave Amstutz, Scout Master, Troop 169.
Isaac also received an award from the Miami Valley Council earlier this year.
