DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) – Fire rips though an apartment building, sending residents out in the rain Friday morning.
The Dayton District Fire Chief Rennes Bowers said the fire started around midnight inside the building on the corner of Riverside Drive and Pioneer Street.
There are five separate buildings sharing one roof and one of the buildings caught fire. Authorities said heavy smoke filled several units on the second floor of that vacant building.
Bowers said crews did have to evacuate a building nearby because they feared the fire would spread.
“Our great concern was that it was going to run the roof and torch off the whole building. So the crews made a great stop stop and confined it to the first section of the first building,” said Bowers.
Bowers said the fire appears to be suspicious and it’s still under investigation.
