DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) — A fight in a grocery store parking lot sent one man to jail and one man to the hospital.

Tyrone Morgan, 51, was arrested on charges of felonious assault.

Officers were called to the East Third Grocery located at 3420 East Third Street after 4 p.m. Saturday.

When officers arrived, they found the victim on the sidewalk to the store entrance bleeding from the back of his head. Police said he was barely conscious and couldn’t tell officers his name.

Witnesses in the parking lot said the victim and Morgan were initially arguing about one dollar across the street at the bus stop in front of Sam’s Food Mart. The two men then went into the East Third Grocery. A clerk told police that they were cursing at each other when they walked into the store, at which the clerk demanded that they leave.

Witnesses said the two men then went outside in the parking lot where a fight ensued. According to witnesses, Morgan bashed the victim’s head into the ground multiple times.

Medics took the victim to Miami Valley Hospital for treatment. They reported he was in serious but stable condition.

When officers took Morgan into custody, they said he told them, “My intentions was to kill him.”

According to police, Morgan told them the argument started after he gave the victim a dollar to get a beer, and the victim decided to just keep the dollar. Morgan said the victim punched him in the eye and so he bashed his head against the pavement.

Morgan was taken to Grandview Hospital to be treated for his injuries.

Morgan was booked into the Montgomery County Jail. He is expected in court Monday. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
