DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) — A man is arrested after shots were fired near the DeSoto Bass apartments.
Dayveon Weaver,26, was arrested for criminal trespassing, carrying concealed weapons, and improperly handling firearms in a motor vehicle.
Police were called to the area of Bancroft Avenue and Danner Avenue after 3 a.m. Sunday on after a witness reported hearing about 20 rounds of shots fired. Police received an additional call a couple minutes later in reference to a gun shot victim in the area of Banker Place in the DeSoto Bass apartment complex. Officers said earlier in their shift, they also received reports of people firing off guns in the same complex.
When police arrived on scene, they spotted a maroon Chevy Impala with Weaver and three other men parked nearby in the 1000 block of Robeson Place.
Officers went to investigate and ordered the four people out of the vehicle. They said when Weaver got out of the car they found a semi-automatic handgun where he was sitting. Weaver insisted the gun wasn’t his.
Weaver was booked into jail and is expected to appear in court Monday.
Police took the gun as evidence.
