DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) — Dayton Police have arrested a man after they say he was armed with a carving knife and was trying to break into a woman’s apartment.
Marty Powers, 21, was arrested on charges of aggravated menacing, criminal damaging, and criminal trespassing.
Police were called to the 1000 block of Hughes Place on a disturbance just after 12:30 a.m. Sunday.
When offices arrived in the area of the DeSoto Bass apartments, they spotted three men running from the scene.
Police caught up with one of the men, who they later identified as Marty Powers, and took him into custody.
The victim told police she has been having trouble with a group of guys who stay in the 1700 block of Stewart Street. She said her sister sold them bad heroin for a food stamp card. The victim said the group now threatens her.
She said that Sunday she and her boyfriend were walking home when the group of men, including Powers, approached them.
She told police they threatened to beat her, so she pulled out her mace, sprayed it at them, ran to her house, and locked the door.
She said about 30 minutes later, Powers and two other men armed with carving knives showed up at her back door. According to the victim, they started yelling at her, so she and her boyfriend moved a couch in front of the door and barricaded themselves inside the apartment.
She told police they eventually kicked in the door but couldn’t get inside because of the couch.
When police showed up, they dropped their knives and took off running.
Powers was booked into jail. He is expected in court Monday.
