DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) – The man accused of beating a grandmother in a Walmart parking lot is now formally charged.

Dionte English, 25, was indicted Monday in Montgomery County on one count of felonious assault and one count of aggravated robbery.

Prosecutors say English approached Dora Hemp, 52, April 7 in the parking lot of the Walmart on York Commons Boulevard in Butler Township as Hemp was getting her granddaughter out of the car.

They say he demanded her purse. He is accused of beating her when she refused.

Witnesses pulled the suspect off Hemp and held him until police arrived.

Hemp did a one-on-one interview with our Jackie Sprague about what happened.

English is set for arraignment Thursday, April 17.
